Dear Chair Cruz and Ranking Member Cantwell,
On behalf of Women Drive Too, a coalition committed to ensuring fair and effective vehicle safety standards, we write in strong support of S. 161, the She DRIVES Act, introduced by Senators Deb Fischer, Marsha Blackburn, Patty Murray, and Tammy Duckworth.
Current crash test standards do not fully account for differences in physiology, leaving women at greater risk of injury in accidents. Studies show women are 73% more likely to suffer serious injuries and 17% more likely to die in crashes compared to men in similar collisions.
The She DRIVES Act requires the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to update its regulations and improve crash testing procedures to reflect real-world conditions, making vehicles safer for everyone. As leaders of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, we urge you to advance S. 161 to ensure vehicle safety standards protect America’s families.
Thank you for your attention to this important issue. We appreciate your leadership and commitment to improving transportation safety, and we look forward to working with you to see this bill enacted.
Sincerely,
Susan Molinari
